Roses Turn, a short play by Kymberly Harris was a Samuel French short play festival finalist and strawberry festival finalist, both performed off Broadway in NYC. Set in NYC, a young married couple Franny and Geoff Weatherbee, are enjoying the fruits of his post graduation Wall Street job, when Franny starts feeling the pangs of guilt as she passes a homeless woman on her way to her art history classes each day. Despite her husband wishes, Franny invites Rose, this homeless woman, into their home, and their lives. Roses Turn by Kymberly Harris is a play that begs the question, who are our homeless population, and how are we addressing homelessness in our country. Performances are July 10, 11, 17,18, 24, and 25th at 8pm, with a special free performance for practitioners and volunteers for the homeless on Thursday July 16th at 8pm followed by a Q &A. Roses Turn will be coupled with Zen Master Hobo, an original short play by Jason A. Vales . The story centers on Raven, a young man who is homeless and living on the streets of San Francisco. While searching desperately for food, Raven encounters, Black Bear, a strange, but wise older man who carries a secret along with him, becomes a teacher to Raven and leads him down the path of enlightenment. On the way, he meets a group of others just like him and at Black Bear’s request, reaches out to them and becomes their teacher. Join us for an evening of entertainment that is thought provoking, socially conscious, and an opportunity to help the homeless while watching live theatre. All shows are at TheatresCool, 403 N. Main Street, Bloomington. For reservations call 309-454-5892. Tickets are $15 , for adults, $8 for students, $3 of each ticket will be donated to Safe Horizons Homeless Shelter.

Different definitions of homelessness are used in different contexts. Generally, homelessness is defined as a person who:
“lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence.# 66% are single adults, and of these, three-quarters are men
# 11% are parents with children, 84% of whom are single women
23% are children under 18 with a parent,
42% of whom are under 5 years of age
